NEW FEATURES FOR 2010:
1. Fully Bonded Construction
- All the components that make up a Nugget
Finder Coil are bonded. This dramatically
reduces false signals when the coil is
bumped against rocks and bushes. A further
advantage is a coil that is rigid and
doesn’t flex or wobble. Even though the
Advantage Series has more wire and a
stronger design, weight remains roughly the
same as the previous models. This was
achieved through innovative design not by
cutting corners!
2. Litz Wire –
All Nugget Finder Coils are wound using Litz
wire; a multi-strand wire in which every
individual strand is insulated before being
wrapped in a cotton or Rayon coating.
The insulation prevents the windings from
creating eddy currents and thereby “seeing
themselves” and transmitting a false signal.
Litz wire has an advantage over other wire
because its’ high surface area gives it a
greater transmission ability. Litz wire is
more expensive to manufacture with, but the
end result is a more powerful, energy
efficient coil. Most other coil
manufacturers do not use Litz wire.
In addition to Litz wire, Nugget Finder has
also added modified shielding to the
Advantage Series which offers better
resistance to Electromagnetic Interference
(EMI). Another benefit has been an increase
in sensitivity and signal response on small
gold, and improved stability; particularly
on the GPX-4500 and 4000 models.
3. Water Resistant –
All Nugget Finder Advantage coils are a
fully sealed. The new O-Ring design with
sealed cable makes them water resistant to a
depth of 2 feet. Now a person can detect
streams, creeks, puddles, and wet grass
without fear of causing damage to the coil.
4. Potted Windings – The heart of any
coil is the winding. It is vital for coil
performance, stability and longevity that
the windings be held firmly in place. Coils
without potted windings will experience a
higher level of “falsing” when the coil is
bumped into obstacles while detecting.
Nugget Finder overcomes this problem by
encasing the entire winding in a super hard
resin that allows absolutely no movement for
the entire life of the coil.
5. Epoxy Reinforced Polyurethane Bracket
– Unique to the Nugget Finder line are their
super strong brackets or coil shaft mounts.
Unlike other manufacturers that form their
brackets out of the same plastic used to
build the coil, all Nugget Finder brackets
are actually anchored into the core of the
coil itself and transfer any strain into a
High Density Foam Center; making them the
strongest on the market!
6. Experience & Goldfields Based Testing
- With over 16 years manufacturing
experience, a strong emphasis on Research &
Development, and immediate access to some of
the best and most highly mineralized
goldfields in the world, Nugget Finder has
the knowledge and resources for producing
the highest quality of aftermarket products.
7. Full 2-Year Warranty – Nugget
Finder Coils are the only coils in the
industry to come standard with a full 2-Year
warranty and protective skid plate!
The History of Nugget Finder Coils:
Nugget Finder Coils were first manufactured
in the early 1990’s, by Barrie & Rohan
Johnson of Barrie Johnson Detector Service
in Wedderburn, Victoria; a small country
town renowned for its’ rich goldfields.
Consisting of a small range of lightweight,
fiberglass coils, these products were very
popular amongst the Australia prospecting
community. Constructed entirely by hand,
Nugget Finder offered prospectors high
performance coils without the excessive
weight associated with similar sized coils
manufactured from plastic.
Nugget Finder continued to produce coils for
the VLF series of Minelab detectors until
the introduction of the Minelab SD2000 in
1994. The SD2000 had an overwhelming impact
on electronic gold prospecting in Australia.
This new generation of Pulse Induction
machines quickly replaced the earlier VLF
models as the pro’s choice for hunting
nuggets. Barrie Johnson Detector Service
began manufacturing a new range of add-on
accessories for the SD series under the
Nugget Finder label, such as sound
enhancers, external speakers, and battery
packs.

Over the following years Barrie & Rohan
Johnson received many enquires from
prospectors eager for a new range of large,
lightweight coils to suite the Minelab gold
detectors. Field testing of these prototype
coils began in late 2002 with incredibly
positive results. By mid 2003 Nugget Finder
coils were again in production, with demand
quickly outstripping supply. To accommodate
the increased demand, Nugget Finder moved to
a larger facility in nearby Bendigo, where
all manufacturing continues to be done
entirely by hand – no automated steps are
involved at any stage of construction.
Nugget Finder is constantly field testing
and listening to customer feedback, they
take pride in their work and aim at making
only the finest search coils. ARIZONA
