NEW MINELAB GPX-4500 Coming Soon!

The GPX-4500 is the ultimate gold finding detector with new added features that makes it stronger and more versatile than ever before. Incorporating new SETA technology, it is quieter and more immune to interference, so that it is a real pleasure to use. No matter if you’ve never picked up a detector before, the GPX-4500 has automatic functions and pre-set search modes that make you an expert in a matter of moments. Quieter operation, louder target signals, improved discrimination, and more versatile, the GPX-4500 is the gold detector that gives the best results.

NEW GPX-4500 FEATURES:

NEW TIMINGS so the GPX-4500 is even more versatile. Users of the GPX-4000 have learnt just how valuable it is to have a range of timings to optimise the performance of the detector. In addition to the four timings found on the previous model, the GPX-4500 now introduces two new timings, Enhance & Sharp. The new Enhance timing is a powerful feature, similar to the Sensitive Smooth timing, but provides an improvement in the depth and signal response on small and larger targets. The Sharp timing is more suited to quieter soils and can also be used for pin-pointing.

NO-FUSS DETECTING WITH PRE-PROGRAMMED SEARCH MODES: The GPX-4500 offers pre-programmed search modes, for easy ‘switch-on & go’ detecting. In addition to the General and Deep search modes are four others, Hi Mineral; Hi Trash; Patch and Test A modes. All 6 search modes can also be modified with your favourite settings and renamed.

GB (Ground Balance) OFF: for neutral soils. When searching in non-mineralised solis, ground balance can be switched off to give increased depth. This setting will be popular for treasure and relic hunters in loam or sandy soils.

BACKLIGHT: so you can read the LCD menu in any light, day or night. The backlight has adjustable time-out to preserve battery life.

STABILIZER: for the smoother threshold. The Stabilizer function is a fine tuner that gives the operator full control over the threshold stability. After all other functions are set, you will use the Stabilizer to give fine adjustment for a smoother threshold and the ability to pick up the faintest of signals.

TARGET VOLUME: Target Volume allows you to increase the strength of softer target signals. This is useful for very windy conditions; for people suffering from hearing loss; and to adjust the audio volume when using external speakers. This is a powerful feature, and will work in conjunction with the Stabilizer control, giving you the ultimate in fine tuning ability.

IMPROVED DISCRIMINATION: gives you access to the worst of trashy ground. When detecting in a high-trash area like a mining site or a campground, the Iron Reject function allows the operator to set the desired level of discrimination, from cautious to aggressive. This will assist detecting in areas that have previously been rejected due to the quantity of Ferrous junk.

BUILT-IN AMPLIFIER: allows you to hear soft target signals from deeper nuggets, more easily. The newly designed Li-Ion battery pack now has an audio amplifier built in, which boosts target signals, if using an external amplifier. The design of the amplifier and the use of high-quality low noise components ensure the signal response is clear and crisp, without the added background hum of some boosters.

SETA Explained

The GPX-4500 now offers a total of six Timing options to suit different detecting conditions. Previous GP series detectors operated using one universal alignment suitable to all their timings. With so many different timing options packed into the GPX-4500, it was no longer possible to rely on a single alignment, and so the Smart Electronic Timing Alignment or SETA concept was born.

SETA automatically sets a precise alignment for each Timing option. What this means is that in each timing, noises caused by magnetic interference will be minimised, the threshold will remain more stable, and signals from highly magnetic rocks will be significantly reduced. This allows you to harness all the power of the GPX-4500, and operate it more efficiently under different conditions.

SETA technology allows each timing to operate independently and much more efficiently so that deep and small hard to hear nuggets become more obvious.

ATTENTION: This new detetor is scheduled for release sometime in April 2008, and Arizona Outback is currently taking pre-orders. If anyone would like to secure one from the first batch coming over from Australia, please contact us at: 928-777-0267 or info@arizonaoutback.com. We look forward to earning your business!

ARIZONA OUTBACK’S

Prospector’s Outing 2008

Join us for the biggest prospecting event of the season!!!

February 16-17th, 2008

Stanton – Rich Hill, Arizona

I am pleased to announce that the 5th Annual AZO Prospector’s Outing has been scheduled! We are fortunate once again this year to be able to host the event at the mining camp of Stanton, Arizona. I'd like to tip my hat to the folks in charge of the property for their continued support of this annual get-together.

Whether you are new to gold prospecting, or a seasoned detectorist, this outing promises to be an event you will not want to miss! Come and join us for special guest lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and a chance to see some of the industries newest equipment including: Minelab’s GPX-4000 and X-Terra Series, along with the entire line of Nugget Finder Coils, Reeds Ultra-Lite Lithium Ion batteries, and other detecting accessories.

The cost of admission to this outing is absolutely FREE! So, please bring your friends and family – there’s plenty for all to see and do.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to sit in on lectures from experienced detector operators, pitch camp in a place that yielded more nuggets than any other location in Arizona, enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow “forum” prospectors around the campfire, and of course, a chance to win some great prizes!

The outing itself will be held just to the east of the main camp of Stanton, and I would anticipate most everyone will camp on the flats just south of Decision Corner. This is a wide, open area and can accommodate tents, campers, and motor-homes; however there are no hook-ups. There will be plenty of events during the day, and plenty of gold talk around the campfire at night! We hope to see you there!

AZO Outing Information

When is it? February 16th – 17th, 2008

Where is it? The outing will be held at the mining camp of Stanton, Arizona; which is located approx. 7 miles east of Congress, approx. 13 miles north of Wickenburg, and approx. 4.5 miles SE of Yarnell. Stanton/Rich Hill is accessible by a light-duty dirt road which can be traveled in a 2WD vehicle. For further exploring off the main roads you may want to have an ATV or high clearance vehicle. Signs will be posted to help lead you to the event.

What about accommodations? Dry camping south of Rich Hill (no hook-ups) or hotel rooms in the nearby towns of Wickenburg, Congress and Yarnell are available. You will need to make your own reservations if you plan to stay in town.

Who can attend? Anyone with an interest in gold prospecting/ metal detecting

How much does it cost? The outing is FREE!

What should you bring?

Chairs – folding or lawn chairs if you would like to sit while listening to the outside presentations.

Prospecting Equipment – please bring any gear you think you might need during the outing. The most popular methods for prospecting in this region are the metal detector and dry-washer.

Food & Beverage – restaurants are located in Wickenburg, Congress and Yarnell. Occasionally food is served in Stanton, but I wouldn’t count on it. Please pack whatever snacks and drink you might need. Food will not be served at the outing.

Transportation – please bring your own car, truck or ATV to get yourself around the Rich Hill Goldfield

Where can I prospect? The Rich hill area is heavily claimed, in order to prospect you will need to be (or become) a member of one of the following clubs: GPAA, LDMA, Roadrunners, Weaver Mining, 24K, or GRGA. AZO is not supplying any land to prospect on, and it is your responsibility to make sure you have the proper membership(s). If we want to continue doing these outings at Rich Hill it is absolutely crucial that everyone respect private claim boundaries, and remember to fill in any dig holes.

Important Info: The caretakers have asked me to remind everyone that Stanton itself is private property and camping on site is only permitted with a membership in the LDMA. Also, to avoid a conflict with the County we must make sure that the roads leading to and away from Stanton are not impeded in any way. Traffic must be allowed to move freely on these roads, so we will have designated parking areas. Please keep all vehicles out of the road unless you are driving.

DETacc External Speaker/Amp System

We are pleased to announce that Arizona Outback will now be serving as the exclusive US Distributor for DETacc; the makers of the new Super Sound Signal Enhancer & External Speaker System. The folks at DETacc in Australia took their already popular Super Sound booster and coupled it with a powerful external speaker that is portable enough to be mounted virtually anywhere! This system is very similar to the one used by professional prospector Jonathan Porter in the video, The Outback Prospector. Included in the system are 1) Signal Enhancer and 2) the External Speaker. These two items do not need to be connected or hard wired; a great feature that allows the speaker to be mounted anywhere. Both are powered by the detector battery and do not require any batteries of their own. Does not require any modification to your detector; simple plug in and go! Enhancer can be mounted to the side of the control box with the provided Velcro straps, or tucked beneath one of the AZO Camo Box Covers. The enhancer carries a full 1-year warranty. Compatible with all Minelab GP and SD Series machines. Price: $175

My Largest Arizona Nugget Patch Ever!

Chris Gholson

This story has been a long time coming. There was mention of it on the Internet, but I shied away from responding simply because the story was running in the March/April ’06 Gold Prospector Magazine. The editor wanted it as an exclusive, so out of courtesy I held off. Now that a new issue is out, I wanted to share with everyone that might not have seen the article.

A summer or two back I decided to head out for a day of 4-Wheeling with my quad. I had just got it running again and was keen on taking it out for a test drive in the hills. Of course I had to pack the detector just in case I came across anything worth while. While out cruising the hills I discovered a tiny gully that looked half-way promising. All the typical gold indicators were there: nice schist bedrock, quartz float, and plenty of iron. I didn’t see any indication that it had ever been tampered with; no old-timer workings or modern day activity, but decided it was worth a try anyway.

I fired up my Minelab GP3500 and began scanning over some of the exposed bedrock. Within seconds I picked up my first target. Signals that come that fast usually indicate trash. Little did I know that this target was about to lead me into the largest virgin nugget patch I had ever found in Arizona.

Once this target was pinpointed and in my hand, I was forced to do a double-take! It was gold! The nugget was small, but this was a brand new area. I didn’t want to get myself too excited; many times I’ve hit a new gully and found a few nuggets, but they usually don’t amount to much. I quickly discovered this was not to be the case. I picked up half a dozen more nuggets within a foot radius. As I pushed further upstream the gold got better and better. I was hitting gold in the guts of the gully, gold in the banks, and in some cases, seeing lying right atop the bedrock!

This patch, which my wife and I dubbed “The Picnic Patch,” yielded in excess of 1,000 nuggets! None of the pieces were large; in fact, the average was less than a half a gram, but it was a blast scratching out all those tiny nuggets. Plus with only about 20 bits of rubbish dug, just about everything that beeped was yellow. We worked it for a while, then brought in a few of our close friends and began averaging 80-90 nuggets per day!

It took me 10 years of hunting the Arizona deserts before coming across something like this, but it gave me hope that even after 150 years of miners scouring the hills there are still good patches to be found. I think as technology continues to improve we will see more of these discoveries coming about. (written Feb. 2006)
